Benzyl Alcohol is just a type of alcohol. It is used in steroids to preserve the suspension for months, even years without and reduction in sterility. Alcohol is an anti-bacterial disinfectant and is used as such in many industries. As previously mentioned Benzyl Alzohol ensures that the finished product maintains its sterility when used in the right concentration however, if too much of it is used the Steroid will be painful to inject and may cause Post injection soreness / pain (PIP).

Benzyl Alcohol (BA) is the antiseptic which keeps the solution sterile. Benzyl alcohol is used as a bacteriostatic preservative at low concentration in intravenous medications, cosmetics and topical drugs.

The use of benzyl alcohol as a 5% solution has been approved by the U.S. FDA for the
treatment of head lice in children older than 6 months and in adults.
